Stocks & Forends

When we receive a gun intended for the Heritage Gun restoration, one of the first inspections that we undertake is a minute examination of the stock and forend wood.
The main faults we encounter are cracks, heavy oiling and gouges. Where any of these compromise the structural integrity of the wood, the gun is immediately discarded for Heritage Gun purposes. However, with the judicious use of a mixture of traditional and modern methods, most challenges can be met with great success.

All Heritage Guns receive a full restoration of their wood which includes a beautiful, high lustre oil finish as used by one of the most exalted English gunmakers and, where necessary, a rechequer. We use no fillers nor sealers in our stock finishing, just up to 50 daily applications of our special finish combined with many hours of that rare ingredient, elbow grease. This is an area where we strongly believe that traditional methods give the best results and so we do not skimp on the time devoted to a truly superb, long lasting finish.
For the individual gun entries in our stock list, we try to be scrupulously honest in describing the wood of our guns and attempt to note all significant repairs and blemishes in our descriptions.
Stock measurements are approximate and we would be happy to have them confirmed by a third party, free of charge.

Alterations to Heritage Guns , including those to drop and cast are charged 'at cost' but are at the purchaser's own risk and subject to a nonreturnable deposit in case of stock damage.

We can supply and fit stock extensions in wood, 'Silvers' type recoil pads, leather covered recoil pads, Ebonite and most other suitable materials. This is also charged at cost for Heritage Guns but subject to a nonreturnable deposit.
