The Heritage Gun Historical & Technical Companion

At Heritage Guns we consider the history and context of individual sporting guns are as fascinating as the guns themselves. This is apparent from the world-wide interest shown by sporting gun enthusiasts in the
J Blanch Database,
an information resource on guns by
John Blanch & Son which we are proud to be associated with.
To reflect this, every Heritage Gun is accompanied by a unique, hand bound book dedicated to its specific gun.

Inside its real leather cover you will discover a mass of fascinating information. This includes a history of your gun's Makers, the historical context of your gun in the gun trade of that time, technical specification and measurements of your gun, a brief introduction to the contemporary English patent laws, details of the main patents exhibited by your gun and, finally, advice on cleaning and maintenance.

The sources of information for the Companion are manifold but include the pre-eminent British gun historians of our time and their writings, Makers' records and even the Makers themselves where they are still in existence.

This information is then woven into a fascinating story of tradition and innovation from around the turn of the 19th Century and richly illustrated with both colour photographs and scans of the original patent drawings.
Finally a single customer copy is printed and hand bound into a gold embossed leather cover.

Even if you are not purchasing a Heritage Gun from us, a Companion can be published for your own gun as a personal commission. Preparation for this would involve a full strip and service or could form part of a complete restoration.
